Tax Law Worksheet
 | This Tax Law Worksheet is a self-study and training resource prepared by Forum Legal. It is intended for non-native English speaking legal professionals and law students who wish to assess and improve their skills in relation to the terminology, concepts and language used in tax law. It is also a useful resource for legal English trainers.
The Worksheet focuses on legislation drawn from both the US (the Internal Revenue Code) and the European Union (amendment to VAT Directive) and contains different exercises based on excerpts from these enactments. These exercises cover the following areas:
(1) Tax quiz
(2) Prepositions
(3) Terminology choice
(4) Antonyms
(5) Nouns, verbs & adjectives
(6) True or false?
(7) Comprehension
(8) Sentence redrafting exercise
The majority of the exercises in this Worksheet are in multiple choice, matching or gap-fill format, and can therefore be completed fairly swiftly to obtain an overall score. However, the Worksheet also contains two written exercises. Model answers are provided in respect of these, but the input of a trainer may also be useful in checking and providing feedback. A total of 100 marks are available for the whole Worksheet.
After completing the Worksheet or an individual exercise, your score can be calculated by comparing your answers with those given in the Answer Key.
Score assessment
- Over 90 marks: an excellent performance, indicating a near-native level of legal English usage.
- 70-90 marks: a very good performance, indicating a high level of legal English usage, with some scope for further improvement.
- 50-69 marks: a fairly competent performance, indicating an adequate level of legal English usage, with clear scope for improvement.
- 30-49 marks: An average performance, indicating some grasp of legal English usage but with very clear scope for improvement.
- Less than 30 marks: a poor performance, indicating a low level of legal English usage. Serious remedial tuition required.
